Van D’am Racing p/b Butterfields are proud to announce exciting local rider Mark Sampson as the last rider for our 2018 roster. The Exercise and Sports Science/Food Nutrition student at the University of South Australia student hails originally from Hong Kong and adds some youthful jubilance to the sprint train.
Recently making the jump to A grade, Sampson won the Copper Coast Road Race during this year’s Super Series before taking second overall in the Cat 2 competition. This marked his rapid rise in the sport and director Lachie Ambrose is keen to see how much the sprinter can develop over the next year.
We are excited to have Mark on board for 2018. Mark is a natural bike racer – he features in every race he starts. We’re looking forward to supporting him in 2017 and seeing what we can acheive.”
Sampson himself was equally as excited to be joining the strong contingent of Van D’am riders for 2018.
“Van D’am has an extremely supportive team that allows riders to balance their pursuits in academic studies as well as sporting aspirations. Seeing this drew me to the team as it allowed me to focus on both university and racing while having the support I need. Not only that, but the team is filled with amazing people which adds to the friendly and welcoming environment. I look forward to riding for Van D’am and hope to achieve good results on and off the bike.”
Samspon will make his Van D’am debut at the u23 Road Nationals in a two weeks time. His signing marks the completion of our 11 man roster for 2018. We are extremely excited for the upcoming year and hope that it will be our best to date.
The exciting announcements aren’t done yet with a few more to come in the next few days before we kick off our season at the 2018 Federation University Road Nationals Championships.
