Van D’am Ready for Road Nationals

The team are excited to kick off the 2018 season with the Australian Road National titles in Ballarat starting this afternoon with the criterium. We will have a strong squad present throughout the championships with every Australian registered rider present from the team.

A small but strong trio will contest the Wednesday afternoon under 23 Criterium with David Randall making his debut in the 32km city race. He will be strongly supported by Tom Allford and Liam Lawlor with Randall and Allford ones to keep an eye on if it were to finish in a bunch kick.

Thursday will see five riders tackle the infamous time trial course out in Buninyong which features almost 500 meters of climbing. Iven Bennett has been racking up the kilometres on the TT bike back in Tasmania and should be in line to pull a strong result along with Matthew de Vroet who has been targeting this event for the past few months. Ethan Egglestone and Lachlan Darch will take the line and hope to improve on last years results and David Randall will race for the second consecutive day as he takes on all three events.

The team will be a force in numbers for the under 23 men’s road race with nine riders lining up, the most of any team. Egglestone will spearhead the charge thanks to his climbing prowess and Mark Sampson and development rider Daniel Siwek will make their first appearance in Van D’am colours. The familiar course up Buninyong will see the field split to bits and the weather will likely play a major role with temperatures expected to hit 40 degrees with high winds. Allford, Bennett, Darch, de Vroet, Randall, and Lawlor round out the squad.

Rylan Dowdell will be the sole Van D’am representative in the Elite Mens Road Race as he takes on the star-studded field on Saturday. Going up against some of the best in the world, Dowdell will hope to prove himself against such a quality field which will put him in good stead for the National Road Series later in the year.

Director Lachlan Ambrose is optimistic of the team’s chances in the toughest race of the year.

This will be our third Road Nats campaign. We feel like this is our best team yet, so we’re really excited for what the boys can acheive on the road.

Stay up to date with all the events at Nationals through the team’s social media feed, with Peak Creative once again joining us again to capture the action.
