Van D’am Racing primed to make debut at Grafton to Inverell
Van D’am Racing p/b Butterfields are excited to make their debut at the infamous Grafton to Inverell race. The first race of the 2018 National Road Series is often referred to as the hardest one day race in Australia. The torturous 228km journey will see the riders tackle over 3300 meters of elevation across the Gibraltar range in Northern New South Wales.
Representing the team will be a small but very strong contingent of riders with the experienced group looking to put on a solid performance.
Fresh off an impressive third place at the notorious Baw Baw Classic, Rylan Dowdell is hoping to put his climbing legs to good use over the Range. Dowdell has risen up the ranks quickly with his progress being immense and cannot be discounted if he gets into the right group towards the finish.
Kiwi Jason Thomason will take up his role as road captain and look to dictate things in the tactical race. With an 18km climb featured still over 100km from the finish line, this often leads to an unpredictable race and Thomason will look to his growing leadership qualities to ensure the team has the smoothest run to the finish.
David Randall will be the go-to man if the race is decided by a large bunch kick after a solid display at the Tour of the South West. Strongman Iven Bennett, who loves race distances over 200km, rounds out the team and will look to use his love for big kilometres to help deliver him a result.
Team director Lachlan Ambrose is optimistic about the team’s chances and excited about experiencing a new race.
“It’s taken a couple of years but we are finally making our first appearance at Grafton. We’ve really come together as a team this year and we’re excited for what’s to come. The boys have packed their climbing legs and we believe we’re in for a result that might surprise a few people.”
Stuart Thomason, who run’s our sister team in New Zealand (Blindz Direct) will be in the driver’s seat where he’ll be making his debut for VDR.
As always, thanks to all of our generous sponsors for making it happen!
