Butterfields-Insurance Advisernet p/B VDR Back to Defend the CSA Super Series

September 10, 2020

After taking out the overall classification at the 2019 Cycling South Australia Super Series, VDR is feeling fortunate that South Australia’s restrictions enable us to attempt to defend this title. Unsurprisingly, Tristan Saunders, the 2019 winner will the focus of our energy. With travel restrictions in place meaning that the National Road Series is unlikely to return, the Super Series will likely be our major focus for the rest of the year.

With the series featuring eight riders, and only 7 riders on the list currently based in Adelaide, we had an opportunity to bring in one of the superstars of our 2019 Dev Team for the series– Zach Marriage. For those who attended the second round of the Adelaide Track League, they would have caught a glimpse of Zach in his first outing in the full 2020 team kit. He showed his tenacity, bunch craft and heart to take it to some of the most talented track riders in the world, and we’re looking to see what he can do on the road.

Riding in support will be our big engines – SA State Champion Iven Bennett, TOGSC stage winner Jason Thomason, the Dowdell cousins along with up and coming star Will Golding. The eight rider on our list is climbing sensation Daniel Siwek, who will be an integral part of making sure we take out the TTT which finishes up a 12% climb.

The 2020 Series will take in 9 rounds for the Elite Team. The series should favour VDR more than in the 2019 series, with the addition of a hilly Kermesse at Gawler, and rumours of an additional road race replacing the moved Vic Park XL criterium. We won’t have it all our own way, with the Cycling Australia Track Team likely to be present for the whole series in 2020 with no interruption due to international track commitments, and Kell O’Brien being the form rider of the past three months and likely be the one to watch.

VDR will have four teams representing in the 2020 series, with teams in both the Elite Categories and Cat 2. Racing starts this Saturday at Pakapakanthi, before moving to Lenswood for Round two the following Saturday. This racing will be some of the fastest and most competitive racing found anywhere in the world, with an ever-increasing local standard we would love to see everyone out!
